Flashback Friday: How A Running Journal Can Help You Improve #GIVEAWAY

Welcome to Flashback Friday, where I revisit a post buried deep in the archives to share new thoughts, and today, to share a giveaway!

Last year I wrote a post about keeping a running journal to boost performance. If you are thinking, “Lea, that is so old-school, I keep track on my runs with my Garmin,” listen up, because there may be some merit in old fashion pen and paper journaling.

Velo Press provided me with free journals to test and giveaway. All opinions are my own.

Your Garmin data or your Strava history may show your miles and paces, but you can reveal a lot about potential holes in your training plan with a running journal.

We don’t train in a bubble. That means it’s not about the hour you run a day, but what you’re doing the other 23 hours that determine your performance. How well do you sleep, how well are you recovering, what are you eating, how’s the weather, and your stress levels? All of these factors have an impact on your training.

If you keep track of what you ate before your best 5K, or how many hours you slept before your worst, you can start to connect the dots between your lifestyle and your performance; It’s all connected.

You can take notes on a blank sheet of paper, or start a new spreadsheet; but if you’re a journal-junkie like me, a brightly colored journal may be just the motivation you need to set big new running goals.
